Clwb Ifor Bach has been an integral part of Cardiff and Wales’ music and city centre scene for 35 years, championing Welsh language and culture, providing a place for many emerging artists and making a valuable contribution to the economy of our city.
There have been some difficult times for live music in Cardiff Central, with the closure of Gwdihw most recently, despite a brilliant campaign led by Minty. So I’m really pleased to see Clwb Ifor Bach’s plans for expansion that have been made possible in part as a result of our amazing ‘Save Womanby Street’ campaign in 2017.
Arts Council funding for a feasibility study has brought the expansion plans of Clwb Ifor Bach to life and I’m excited at what this could mean for our city’s music scene.
The expansion will allow Clwb Ifor Bach to provide more opportunities for musicians starting out, experience for those who want to work in the music industry and provide greater capacity in a much more accessible venue.
The plans include 300 and 500 capacity spaces, lifts and a roof terrace with views to the castle! The public consultation is open now so I hope that you will take a look at the plans and have your say.
