May 4th is Firefighters Memorial Day.

At midday today, firefighters across the UK will stand silent to remember their fallen colleagues after a brief sounding of sirens, the strike of a bell or blow of a whistle.

On duty crews parade in fire kit on station forecourts at midday and stand in a minute’s silence as they remember the more than 2,300 colleagues lost in the line of duty.

I am proud to have co-sponsored an Early Day Motion to remember the fallen and commemorate the selfless dedication of our firefighters – you can view the EDM by clicking here.

Today of all days is a day to remember the bravery and dedication of our firefighters, and all those who put their own lives on the line every day to keep us safe.
