The headlines may have moved on, but the work of getting justice for the victims of the Windrush scandal continues.
I recently wrote to the Home Secretary in a letter coordinated by my Labour colleague Kate Green MP, asking about the Government’s plans for compensation. In his response the Home Secretary said he was still gathering information and that whilst the call for evidence had now closed, people could continue to make their views known by emailing; firstname.lastname@example.org and sending the evidence to the Windrush Compensation Team, Peel Building 2, Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DF.
There is also a formal consultation on the compensation scheme to follow. Although money will never undo the worry, stress and misery caused to individuals and families affected by this scandal, it is important that the compensation scheme is fair and comprehensive. I will continue to ensure that the Government delivers on its promises within the timescales promised.
