Last week, the Foreign Secretary, said that “democracy and freedom of expression mean nothing unless journalists are able to expose the truth”.

How does this square with the arrest of two members of the National Union of Journalists – Trevor Birney and Barry McCaffrey – for their role in making the award-winning documentary No Stone Unturned, precisely for exposing the truth about the police’s protection of the killers involved in the Loughinisland massacre towards the end of the troubles in Northern Ireland?
