The Post Office have announced that following their consultation, they are going ahead with plans to re-locate the to move the City of Cardiff Post Office to the rear of the WHSmith shop, 83-85 Queen Street, Cardiff, CF10 2NX, where it will be run by WHSmith.
The Post Office are planning to open the new branch on Thursday 28 March, promising me that there will be no break in service for customers.
The Post Office have written to me saying that they will closely support and monitor the new branch so that customers have both convenient access and a high quality service and I intend to hold them to that promise. If you experience any difficulty in accessing your usual services during or after the move, please contact me and I will raise your concerns directly with them.
I’ve previously raised concerns about this move – in Parliament earlier this month I spoke in a debate on the Government’s back door privatisation of Crown Post Offices specifically raising our Post Office. I have also asked Government Ministers questions about why our Post Office services are being put at risk.
In 2018, WH Smith were voted the worst high street retailer by Which? readers. It’s been in the bottom two in the survey for the last 8 consecutive years. We know that WH Smith stores on our high streets are in financial trouble, and with these moves, loyal Post Office workers have the choice of being dismissed through redundancy or being transferred to this retailer with no protection for their pensions.
